Hello,
Can everyone please educate me on the history and rarity of my record? It's "Midnight, The Stars and You" by Ray Nobel 24700, however it's a Spanish version titled, "Medianoche, Las Eatrallas Y Tu".
I can't find any mention of it, nor any pictures of another copy. Any help would greatly be appreciated! Below is my recording of it on my VE 8-35x.

Easy to spot. It's a typical Ray Noble recording of the mid thirties, but in the Argentine Victor pressing. That's why the main titles are in Spanish, and that's why you don't see it usually in this form. You'll find the US Victor pressing, probably with the same numbers. The refrain, though, most probably is sung in English.
Maybe a bit rare. DAHR hasn't listed neither that song not the Victor 24700 record, apparently.
Anyway, of you google for it, the American version appears. It was an imported recording from UK, the original being published as hmv B6461 BTW, the vocal refrain is by famous Al Bowlly.

You're very fortunate to have this record. I've wanted one for years, but can't get near one for the pricing. Had it not been used in the movie, "The Shining," I doubt it would even be noticed. I do enjoy the music of Ray Noble, no matter the title.
I enjoyed hearing it on your machine!

Yes, it's in English, same exact recording as the regular one. The link to my YouTube recording of it is in my original post. Yes, I see many pictures of the English label, but haven't seen any online of my label.

Thanks! Yes, I've seen The Shining at least a hundred times. The song grew on me and I had to have it. I missed on one a year or two ago, but saw this one and couldn't resist. It's my grail record haha! I play it quite often as it mellows me out, and only use a cactus needle.CharliePhono wrote: Tue Apr 05, 2022 7:24 pm You're very fortunate to have this record. Here is my webpage on this track.
http://www.albowlly.club/78s/midnight-t ... d-you.html
All the various versions are of the exact same take recorded on February 16, 1934. I have seen several other Ray Noble Victor releases on the Argentinian RCA Victor label, but not this one before. Very nice, thanks for sharing.

You're welcome! Wow, I didn't know there were that many label variations! Will you be adding my label variation to your club pictures of this song? Does this mean my label is more rare?chunnybh wrote: Wed Apr 06, 2022 3:44 am Here is my webpage on this track.

None of these pressings are "rare". The only reason this track fetches high prices is because of it's appearance in The Shining. I've seen it sell for a few dollars to a few hundred dollars. Why?... I suppose it depends on who and how many were bidding at the time.Does this mean my label is more rare?
The reason this track appears on so many labels is because HMV / Victor would have thought it was going to be a hit. The master would have been sent around the world and varying quantities of records would have been pressed in each country.
The very best pressing is of course, the laminated Australian pressing which is super quiet.
Yes, I will add it to my page. Thanks.

Well, it's rare for me! I paid more than a few dollars, and I'd buy it all over again if I saw another copy.chunnybh wrote: Wed Apr 06, 2022 6:35 pmNone of these pressings are "rare".
