I have a couple of these in my collection . . . has anyone ever seen these before? One of the sides is Ombra Mai Fu, which I love. Anyone know anything about Signor Notariello?

I haven't, but I've put out a query on it on a 78 collectors E-mailing list.

Here's a reply I just got:
with Google I find
Try sending for a back issue of "The Record Collector".
An article on Notoriello is listed here:
http://www.therecordcollector.org/publi ... ssues.html
Ask for June, 1998; Vol 43, No. 2.
Notoriello lived 1892-1975
I think he recorded some in the 20's as well.
He is on a hard to find CD
NUMBER The Record Collector TRC 5
FORMAT CD
COMPOSER Tosti, Paolo
TITLE Inverno triste
SOLOIST *Notariello*, *Antonio*
DATE Jul 1928
ALBUM A Toast to Tosti
1921, he toured Australia with Verbrugghen Orchestra
Witton & Witton pianos are still made

Re: Anyone ever seen this before?
That 'Toast To Tosti' CD actually as a pretty detailed little bio of Notariello in the enclosed booklet.
I'm not going to type it out verbatim, but some facts are:
Born in Foggia, Italy in 1892.
Wanted to be a doctor, eventually chose singing, studied under Fernando De Lucia.
Colleague to such stars as Melba, Dal Monte and Gigli.
Performed under the baton of Toscanini and Pietro Mascagni.
Singing career cut short due to unspecified illness.
Became a vocal teacher, made a late in life interview/ broadcast for the BBC.
Died in 1975.

Re: Anyone ever seen this before?
Thanks for the great responses! I've also since learned that Notariello was married to the daughter of John Macmillan Brown, a Scot who became a prominent New Zealand anthropologist and university leader.
