Those who are paying attention will notice I extended the doors on the machine for this one. Columbia 810s have a two- story horn- the top aims to one side, the bottom to the opposite side. I thought leaving the doors extended might better focus the sound.

"Kickin' A Hole In The Sky", "The New Yorkers", Q.R.S. Q-1027, from late 1931 or early 1932:

This is the short- lived "Cova Recording Corp" redux of the Q.R.S. label that was based in NYC and only lasted a year or so. Other records in this series by "The New Yorkers" are Carl Fenton's Orchestra, but not this one! I suspect it's Sam Lanin's last attempt to remain relevant after the Ipana Trobadors contract was pulled due to the Depression. It's the same arrangement as his Columbia release of the same title (but at a madcap pace!), Irving Kaufman is here as "Irving Mann", and the violin/ trombone sound like Joe Venuti and Tommy Dorsey.

In spite of this being an E++ copy, surface noise is quite apparent- quality control is not. I suspect this was shortly before Cova folded.
