World War 1 Era German Columbia Record

Post by Frisco The Beagle »

What is the story on this Columbia record? Seems it would have been verboten to press these in the US at that time.

WWI began in 1914. This record was released in 1916.

You get to learn about unexpected things collecting and/or listening to old records.

The USA stayed neutral and finaly entered into WWI in 1917.

The large German communities in many American cities had publications devoted to the european war. These were printed in the US and in German language. One called "Kriegs Album" showed photos and provided some news about what was happening were these Americans came from.

You will also find songs of anti-war and neutrality, switching to pro.

It's all very socially and politically interesting.

James.

These are fundraiser records. There are several different ones. This one is marked, "Zum Besten des deutschen und Oesterr[eichischen] Roten Kreuzes", which means "For the benefit of the German and Austrian Red Cross".

Wow, fascinating! Thank you so much for the info.
I have heard about the pro-Germany bunds in America prior to WW2, but not WW1. Just noticed the word "Brooklyner" which I assume must a be Brooklyn, NY bund.
