Recently I bought a brown wax cylinder record from Kurt Nauck. Who buys them from Paul Morris’ Music in the UK! Is there anything I should know? Apart from the sworf during the recording. I did buy a recorder cutter a while back to use. I will be using my Home Phonograph to record on.

If you ever looking for original brown wax cylinder shaved blanks I usually always have them. I have a bunch listed on eBay currently.

Re: My first cylinder recording
A good clear recording!
I have used Paul Morris blanks for several years and have found them consistently good; they are precisely centred so that there is no swishing sound, they fit well on both Edison and Columbia mandrels, and they are of good thickness, allowing them to be re-used many times if necessary.
Incidentally, I have never had any shaving equipment but have found it perfectly feasible to clean a used cylinder by hand with what we call 'white spirit' in Britain (I think the U.S. equivalent is 'petroleum spirit'), using a soft lint-free cloth. If you rub the cylinder until the original grooves are totally invisible, you can be confident that they will be inaudible too. The surface will not be quite as smooth as Paul left it, but the recording itself has just as good a chance of success.
