New Republic Record
I just picked this label up from the shop today for a dollar and none of my collector friends have ever seen or heard of it. Any of you have any information about it?

Re: New Republic Record
Very interesting. Just to confirm, these are laterally cut, right?

Re: New Republic Record
My internet searches did not yield any information.
Pathé gave up on vertical cut records in 1925. So, I would guess they are lateral, as it was the dominant method in 1921 when the label started.

Re: New Republic Record
This label seems to have some association with recording Irish tunes.
I thought I'd have a gander at the Ted Staunton label gallery but it seems to be gone.

James Morrison was an Irish fiddler who's work seems to straddle the acoustic and electric recording eras.

My first thought without seeing the comments was - green label & shamrocks = Irish
"The phonograph is not of any commercial value."
Thomas Alva Edison - Comment to his assistant, Samuel Insull.
"No one needs a Victrola XX, a Perfected Graphophone Type G, or whatever you call those noisy things."

Re: New Republic Record
It makes sense, with the new Republic of Ireland flag being all over the label and the New Republic title being in reference to the Irish Free State created shortly before.

Re: New Republic Record
Was that American Pathé only, or French Pathé as well?
I thought in France, Pathé Vertical cut recordings were available until 1929-30 but I could be wrong.

They say ended 1925 abroad, and until 1932 in France.

There was also a Spanish factory in the Basque country founded in 1917 which stopped making vertical Records and switched to Pathé actuelle needle cut records towards 1926, later folded in 1928, acquired by Columbia.
