Harry McClintock on Victor scroll 21704-B "Big Rock Candy Mountains"

Post by Dischoard »

Found this in a small stack of "cowboy song" records that I picked up. Made me want to run out and buy a Chevy ;)

I can't believe this was the B-side. I've listened to the A-side and it's really nothing special. In fact that seems to follow suit with the other records in that same collection. I'll be posting a couple of the sides to the YouTube channel that I seem to have inadvertently created.

This makes me want to re-watch O Brother Where Art Thou! (This vintage recording found a new generation of fans on that movie’s soundtrack). I’d love to find an original 78 copy like yours, great find and a great song!

My father used to play this song on his guitar and sing when I was young.

I remember group singing that song as a child in grade school. Didn't realize it was a quintessential hobo song until many years later, but maybe they gave us different lyrics back then. I don't remember.

I've owned several copies of that one over the years. I may still have one around here somewhere. I'll do some digging.
