Interesting article--thanks for posting! Probably doesn't bode especially well for the little niche operations issuing microgroove 78s, like Rivermont.

Thanks for the link. Indeed, very interesting to read along. What hasn't been addressed here are the increasing quality control problems even the most-prized pressing plants are showing these days.

Pressings by RTI have become so bad that I have stopped buying any more of their hyped Blue Note "Tone Poet" re-issues. My return rate was at staggering 40%. These problems comprised deep scratches from vinyl swarf, non-fills, and badly off-centered sides. Even the nice thick cardboard gatefolds do not compensate for such defects at €35-50 for a mass produced LP. I will not be surprised if the market will implode due to its own shortcomings and maybe that will be a healthy cure.
