Seeking information on Edison coffee mugs

Post by max_phenol »

Hi,

Does anyone have information about coffee mugs with Edison "Gold Moulded Record" or "Amberol Record" that were made a long time ago and show up occasionally on eBay (see attachment)? They were pretty well made and I wonder what company made them or if a collector made them, who was it? Does anyone here own one?

Thanks,
Helmut

I'm pretty sure APSCO used to sell them 15-20 yrs ago.
They do show Nipper mugs atm but they're labelled discontinued.

I purchased mine from APSCO in the mid 1980's.

I believe Nick Pool (spelling?) from Michigan had these, and others, made. I bought a complete set of six(?) different mugs from him when he had them displayed at one of the annual Phonoventions held in MI about 20 years ago.

Yes it was Nick Poole who had them made and marketed them. Nick was a piano tuner and technician from Muskegon, Michigan. Nick marketed the mugs in the late 80's and early 90's . He was a good friend so i bought quite a few of them from him. I probably bought every style he sold. Nick passed away several years ago.

They are very nicely-made cups, from a time when such custom work was fairly expensive. I still have 3 in my regular rotation, all worn but treasured after using them every morning for decades. I had more but time took its toll.

I got one from APSCO many years ago: unfortunately, it got cracked, and is no longer serviceable... :(

Thanks for all the information.

Can anyone please take a good (high resolution, good light) photo of the "Gold Moulded" mug - of the side that shows the portrait of Edison? That would be very kind.

These are very neat. I do not drink coffee much or I would hunt some down to purchase.
