No doubt most people will be able to identify the athlete in the center, and maybe even the conductor on the left, and a few the composer on the right.
But what was the date and the occasion?

I recognized Paul Whiteman and Babe Ruth. Wouldn't have guessed J.P. Sousa on the right.

From what I've been able to find out, the photo dates to about 1927. See -- https://1927-the-diary-of-myles-thomas. ... 75f5864dec
I'd guess that's the saxophone Paul Whiteman gave to Babe Ruth.

From what I can glean from a variety of old newspapers, the first appearance of this curious photo was on July 1, 1927. It was one of several, showing various gymnastics (musical & athletic) being performed by these "chubby" guys. So the pix probably were taken at the end of June 1927.
