Victor record catalogues

Post by edisonplayer »

I have a question;why is it that not all the Victor records were listed in the catalogue?I have a record by Rev.Gates called "Sad Home Of Death"/"You've Gotta Lay Down And Die Some Day".That's not in any of my catalogues. edisonplayer.

These unlisted were regional issues, that is,records issued in only a certain part of the country. Also, race and country records. I know before the introduction of the V series this was the case.Victor had separate catalogues for these.edisonplayer.

That's a very good question. The record you reference was recorded on 12-1-26, but does not appear in the 1927, 1928 or 1930 regular catalogs, although several Gates sides are listed in those catalogs. Even more curious, to me, is that the same sides listed in the catalogs are listed in this Race Records supplement, but not yours. Interesting.

I also think that Victor had a catalogue for country music records, aka Old Tyme Tunes.edisonplayer.
