Removal of nickel plating

I am trying to remove the old nickel plating from this tone arm, since it is really over the edge, and need new nickel plating. I have been able to remove most of the rust, but the nickel plating is really tough. Any other suggestions than wet sanding paper ? Any good solutions to new nickel plating is also appreciated. You can remove it the same way it was applied, but with the poles reversed. There are several videos on youtube on home electroplating.
