What was the original finish of my VV-X.

The finish on my mahogany Victrola VV-X was a mess. Mainly the lid. I was wanting to know what did they use on the inside of the lid and deck area to give it that reddish/orange look? I would like to have the entire machine the same color. At first I thought maybe buying orange shellac flakes but then I read where that gives it a brownish/amber look. Any help is appreciated!! I currently have the outside of the lid stripped down to the wood.
