Help needed with an Edison Opera

Post by Jerry B. »

I am sooooo close to being able to play cylinders on my Opera. The stylus goes up and clears the record but in the down position it only makes occasional contact with the record. Is my spring too strong? Is there a place to adjust for vertical movement? Thanks for any help.

Is the lift tongue completely clearing the reproducer when in the down position? If not, the adjustment should be made on the reproducer, likely not the tongue. Do you have an Edison 1A, 1B or III to check the reproducer?
I've posted pictures before regarding this; maybe a search will find them.

My Opera is working properly! As it turned out, I sent out the Diamond A to Wyatt Markus about ten days ago. After his quick turnaround I decided to give it a try back on the machine where it spent the last hundred years. And it worked! I wish I could say I did something profound but I can't. I'd like to thank Cliff and Bob for their help and suggestions and, of course, Wyatt Markus.
