Fiber Needles : Burmese Thorns

Post by Daithi »

I am in receipt of a pack of those Burmese Colour Needles from a guy called Andy in England and based on an initial playing of my favorite record they are superior to anything I have tried so far. Super results. I'm going back for more.

I use these thorns exclusively and have done so for many years. There are none better on the planet in my opinion.

I had no idea that these were still being made and I have been buying NOS ones. Thanks for the link i've checked it out and early in the new year intend on placing an order.
I am interested in all forms of audio media including: gramophones, phonographs, wire recorders, the tefifon, reel to reel tapes, radiograms and radios.

I started using them around a year ago. Not only do they sound great but with careful sharpening last seemingly forever, played around a 1000 sides and I'm still on the first 25 needles! Thanks Andy.

They are easy to sharpen and have good wear characteristics which would seem contradictory but there you have it. They appear translucent. I have been sharpening them with a diamond fishhook sharpener. They work best for early quiet records and deliver a good boost in detail and volumn over what I'm used to.
