Governor repair on a Victor electric Universal motor

Post by Bruce_Van_Note »

Can anyone supply information on the proper way to repair the governor assembly on a Victor Victrola electric Universal motor Model 82-C? I think I'm on the right track but I don't know if I'm missing something.

What problem are you having with it? I recently overhauled one of those and I may be able to help.

Hi Jim! I’m not having any problems as such, but I have this feeling that what I’m doing is not the easiest way to work. I’m replacing the friction leather to control the motor’s speed. That’s not a problem. The job would be easier if I could remove the complete governor shaft assembly which holds the weights and springs, but I don’t know how to remove it. I’ve found that putting on new governor springs is difficult when one’s fingers and thumbs ate as big as mine. I hope you can help me out. Thanks, Jim.

There's a couple different versions of the Universal motor. Got a photo?
