Tone Arm sticks causes the record to keep repeating.

Post by KevinSexton »

I have a Columbia Grafanola Type L-2 and I have lubricated the tone arm, the "upper" joint moves freely. The "lower" joint turns ( i can pretty easily turn it all the way around) but appears to have enough friction to cause the tone arm/reproducer to get stuck and not move forward on the record. It plays the first 2/3rd of the record fine then simply repeats. I have tried to remove the tone arm at the "lower" joint but I cannot remove it. Any suggestions on how I stop the repeating.

Could it be swelling pot metal?

Most likely. Columbia tone arms are notorious for that.

Sounds like a pot metal problem: search the forum for tips on how to disassemble pieces like this.

If the owner is reluctant to attempt a repair, isn't there a Forum member that does this for a reasonable fee?

Jerry B, do you have the user name or contact information for a user that would do the repair work to get this tone arm back to working order?
