Did you also seal the back end of the cast iron horn, where it joins up with the cabinet? And also, the external casting that seals against the cabinet?

I am surprised no one has mentioned silicone caulking. I have used it on horn seals many times. Stays soft and seals well.

The only thing I did was coat the metal face generously with Johnson's paste wax. Should I seal the edges with wax?

I would think it's as important as sealing the horn bell. If you really laid the Johnson's on thick then maybe that will do.
