Mineral Spirits For Cleaning?

Post by vintagetenor »

Hi folks, I have a a VV-400 that can use some cleaning. The cabinet is mahogany and I was advised that rubbing on some mineral spirits would clean it up without damage to the finish.

Should I proceed with that?

NO. Mineral spirits may strip the varnish off. Try Go Jo or Goop hand cleaner, non pumice. Look up using the search function on the forum.

Also Restore a Finish in the proper color match would also help. Brown mahogany?

I have this exact player, one of my favorites. I cleaned mine with Gojo and posted it:

It's reddish, not brown. Thank you both, Damfino59 and Dischoard!

I've always had upright machines from time to time over the years because those are what came along each time. This VV-400 is my first low boy machine and I'm starting to prefer these over the uprights. I can't keep this one because of space and finances but I'm confident that I'll be looking for another one soon.
