Refurbishing Speaker Surrounds- Is it worth it?

Post by Zkeener323 »

Has anyone had experience with replacing the stiff speaker surrounds on Electrolas such as the RE-45 and RE-57? If so, did it provide a noticeable improvement in sound. Or is it not worth the trouble/expense. The comments by "streetmechanic14" in this post: viewtopic.php?p=310975#p310975 lead me to believe to leave it alone, but I am interested to hear others opinions.

I would offer this advice. If the rebuilder uses a paper or leather surround- as was used in the original design - go ahead with it. But if the restore uses the foam type surround- be aware it has a relatively short life compared to paper.
