Welding repair on Opera governor cover

Post by saxymojo »

Hi

I bought an Opera from the USA some time ago, when it arrived the lug on the governor cover was broken due to neglect when being packed. This cover should be removed when shipping, there is only one screw that holds it in place and is prone to breakage.

This broken part has frustrated me for a long time, I tried various methods of repair with no success. I decided to send it to a jeweller friend of mine in Melbourne, he has access to a laser welder. The repair is fantastic, in the picture you can see how fine it is. The weld did not damage the screw thread, it is very solid and best of all, no damage to the paint. I imagine there would be quite a few people with this same problem, so there is an easy solution.

What a nice, clean repair! So far I've been lucky and haven't needed repairs like that, but it's comforting to know that the technology is out there. I'm looking forward to any photos you might want to post of it on your machine. (hint, hint). Thanks for sharing!
