Graphonogram.com an interesting site

Post by Inigo »

Looking for old catalogues of Cie Française du Gramophone, I found this interesting site https://www.graphonogram.com which seems to be from Switzerland. It has visual of an interesting collection of gramophones and phonographs, but in the Documentation section, it has up to 393 old catalogues and adverts for machines, most of them european. The scans of the catalogues are not of high resolution, but anyway you can watch there the incredible variety of German, French, etc models. Very interesting the catalogues of French and Spanish HMVs, which will help solving many of our doubts about those special machines, whose luxury cases are so different from the plain American Victor and British HMVs.
Don't miss the interesting Paillard and Thorens catalogues of machines, motors, soundboxes and tonearms, etc. They help understanding and recognizing the many off brand machines we're always doubtful about. Interestingly, many unrecognizable machines are presented in these, being actual models made by Paillard or Thorens. Of course, as they sold all that hardware, this posibilited many minor local makers to produce their own machines assembled from those parts. There are also catalogues of many other brands.
The sensation is 'too much info'.... You'll need time and many visits to learn all that vast cultural and industrial richness!
