FOR SALE: Unusual Puritan Upright - $750 - SOLD!

Post by Jerry B. »

I am selling a very nice curved sided mahogany Puritan. It's in very nice original shape and plays fine. The price is $750 and I'm happy to deliver to Union or CAPS at no additional cost. If interested or have questions please email, call, or PM. It goes to the first person to say "SOLD!".

If you like any of the uprights I'm listing please reply. I will not take large machines to a show unless they are pre sold.

Thanks, Jerry

Being a newbie, can you educate me on this brand and/or the particular model? Thanks.

I've always liked uprights that are quirky in appearance. This Puritan has several features that I find interesting. The sides are curved like Mae West and curved cabinets are difficult and expensive to build. As a result they are somewhat unusual today. Also, notice where the sound exits the horn. It's way down low. We all know that sound quality was compromised in a regular Victrola cabinet when compared to a big horn machine because the horn machine projected sound up towards ear level. Why in the world would anyone design a machine where the sound comes out at your ankles? I don't care much for all the cookie cutter ordinary uprights that were common in the late teens. The Puritan company took risks in the style of their machines just like the Modernola Company, Keen-O-Phone and others. That's what I like. I think you could build an interesting collection at modest cost by just buying quirky uprights. Jerry Blais
