Wanted: Speed Regulator

Post by Ronphono »

I have a Victor II "Humpback" that I'd like to swap out its rusty/pitted Nickel Plated Speed Regulator with a nice original one. Anyone have a nicely plated original sitting around?

Please email any info. as I don't seem to consistently get all messages here.

Thanks!
Ron

Hey Ron,, until you find what your looking for, throw the parts in muriatic acid (wear rubber gloves) for about 5 minutes then rinse and clean them with a baking soda/water solution to neutralize the acid. I work outside and up wind so you don't get a whiff of the acid fumes. If you have a buffer available do a little buffing and you will be very surprised at the results. If your happy with the outcome, give it a shot of clear lacquer.

I'm attaching a picture of a horn crane done using this process and the results speak for themselves.

Blizz - Excellent suggestion! I’ll give that a try.

Does this get the pieces down to bare metal or does it retain any of the nickel plating?

in my opinion it would leave some of the plating but really eats up any rust so nearly down to bare metal. I have also used muriatic acid on rusted music box disc with some success but you will lose any printed labeling or numbering on the disc.
