FOR SALE: Circassian Walnut Victrola Model VV-XVI - 9k OBO

Post by Eakaline »

I would like to sell my beautiful Victrola Model VV-XVI with Circassian Walnut finish.
I am asking $9000, but negotiable for best offer.

This will eventually also be posted on ebay

The condition is very good and the markings and color is quite beautiful.
There is a light scratch on the lid and a chip on the inside lid.
Inside the cabinet is includes a record collection, a needle cutter, four wheeled legs, extra needles.
There is also a lock and key, though the lock is stiff.

Located for pick up in Queens, NY preferably before the New Year. Crating service can be arranged at the buyers expense. I have been told the motor does need to have some springs replaced and I have received a quote from a Victrola doctor of around $300, but I am not an expert.

Below are specifics of this particular machine from a recent appraisal.

Typeof Phonograph:VictorVictrola Model XVI, S/N 32106 C, Circassian Walnut finish.
Description: The XVI was the flagship phonograph in Victor’s product lineup formany years. It featured a 4 spring motor, semi-automatic brake, andgold hardware.

OperationalCondition: Notfunctioning; motor needs rebuilding
CosmeticCondition: Very Good Plus (VG+) original condition.
ApproximateProduction Date: February,1911
RetailPricing License Date:June 1, 1910
OriginalSelling Price:$250.00 (including optional finish)
Datesof Production: August1906-March 1921
TotalProduction:197,020
Rarity:The Victrola XVI model represents 1.8% of total Victor production.Rarity is ranked as 1 star out of 4 (very common). However, any modelin Circassian Walnut is considered “rare”.

Victrola XVI’s are quite common; however, becauseit was Victor’s flagship model, the XVI generally remains indemand. Since this example is in original condition, is a relativelyearly production version, and has the optional Circassian Walnutfinish (much rarer than the more commonly found mahogany), it isvalued at a significantly higher price than would normally beencountered for other finishes. Collectorsprefer Circassian walnut cabinets with highly figured grain, and thisexample features a very prominent grain pattern. Early examples ofCircassian walnut Victrolas, such as this one, tend to have morehighly figured grain than the later production examples. TheCircassian walnut veneers were finished with wax, which has tended tohold up well over the years.

This example appears to be in good cosmetic condition.
