If you have a VE 8-60 or VE 9-40 with its original pot metal big 5” round valve gear, you probably don’t have a functioning valve to switch between listing using your acoustic reproducer and your electric pickup. Recently, I have found after cleaning up five valves from 5 machines, this big 5” round gear (actually 4.86”), is the only thing that needed to be replaced. The original gear had swelled up 6% larger, jamming itself against its mating part, and becoming all wavy versus flat.
