FOUND: Edison Phonograph
I am looking to buy an Edison external horn (standard, home, etc.) phonograph that has been restored – clean (displays nicely) and in excellent working order. This will be a “starter” phonograph for me. Please let me know if you have one you’d like to sell to a newbie (me) and whether you have some cylinders for sale as well. I am in the Washington, DC area. Thank you.

If you are located near FL it would be advised you visit the Orlando Phonograph Show Jan 24-25.acstriegel wrote:I am looking to buy an Edison external horn (standard, home, etc.) phonograph that has been restored – clean (displays nicely) and in excellent working order. I personally will have a few quality Edison Phonographs for sale at the show.

Book the Amtrak Autotrain from Larton VA to Sanford FL. Your car is loaded on the train with you and offloaded on your arrival at Sanford.Sanford is approx 40mins drive from Orlando.

Raphael Cole (a member of this forum) has a very nice Edison Fireside listed on ebay right now.

He's an experienced shipper, too, so you don't have to worry about it arriving with damage.

Re: WANTED: Edison Phonograph
The best advice I can give is to buy a machine with two and four minute playing capability. You might pay about $50 more for the 2&4 minute player over a 2 minute only player but it is money well spent. I think many first time buyers settle on a two minute player with the intention of buying the additional gearing to make it a combination player. It's tough to find the gearing and moderately expensive to buy it when found.
