I'm assuming a Victor slotted crank would also be the same/correct?

I would measure the distance from the pin in the winding shaft (or a smidge past the pin) to the outside of the cabinet to a point where the crank turns to the knob. I'd then call Ron Sitko with this measurement. I suspect a reproduction slotted crank for a Victor III would fit your needs and Ron can help with the correct replacement crank.

We all have the desire for original parts but an original slotted crank for a Victor or Zonophone is a tall order. If you locate one I would expect the price to be around $100 or more.

This is the crank from my late Zonophone Concert. I believe it to be correct and original and what you need. A reproduction Sitko crank for a Victor will work and look good until you turn up an original . The important measurement is the length of the shaft from the slot to the point where it meets with the flat portion that goes to the knob. Hope this helps.

The correct crank for that machine is an "S" shaped crank with a slotted, drop off shaft, similar to a Symphonion music box crank, although any slotted crank that fits will work. An original is a needle in a haystack crank that is very seldom found loose from a machine.

What you are looking for is similar to the one shown below, which is (I believe) an original Symphonion crank with a brass handle, although the crank shape is more correct for a Zonophone... Symphonion cranks are normally more slender "S" shaped than this. The original Zonophone crank that you need is very similar, but with a wooden handle.

Here is a picture of the "exact" correct crank for your Zonophone. Additional pics can be seen here: https://www.technogallerie.com/shop/190 ... ica-parts/
Mine was a late backmount model like yours and had this exact same crank...

I think we need to consider that the Concert model Zonophone evolved from a front mount to a rear mount made with the same cabinet and cast insert decks and finally to a Concert Zonophone in name only because it was a Victor subsidiary with Victor Talking Machine appearance. If we look at the photo of atopoloksy's crank-less machine it looks like a very late Victor dictated Zonophone Concert. The very similar machine in my collection has the crank I posted in my reply. It's a slotted crank that's a little different. It has an untapped entrance with a pin across the inside of the tube. It engages a winding shaft with a fairly short pin. A replica Victor slotted crank with the correct length from the winding shaft will work fine at least until an original is located.

Respectfully submitted,
Jerry Blais

My late-model Zonophone "Oxford" (sold by Sears) uses a Victor-style slotted crank.

Jerry and Raphael are correct. Your machine uses a Victor style slotted crank. The earlier metal bed Zonophones used the s-shaped Zonophone crank that Curt mentions, but almost all of the wood bed machines -- including yours -- used the Victor style crank.
