Wanted: Crescendo Junior Soundbox

Post by dzavracky »

Does anyone have a spare one for sale? I am fixing a Decca portable for someone and the reproducer is cracked (see pic)

Should I also ask in the European section?

Or a soundbox that would fit this machine

David,

I suggest you place a "Wanted" ad in the British & European classified section, asking for a reproducer for a Decca portable. Including the Decca model number, if possible, would even help more. At the very least, someone there will know exactly what reproducer is proper for that machine. I don't believe the one you've shown is correct, but I'm no expert here.

I made another post. Thanks Jerry

I just went on Ebay and typed in decca portable wind up and there is a salon model (in the UK) with the reproducer you are looking for---so I guess it is one they used or one heck of a coincidence.

The above soundbox, the Crescendo Junior, is indeed the correct soundbox for this model, a Decca Junior.

You’re correct! I read the paper label on it and it says “Model: Junior”

I tried JB weld on it tonight... I’m curious to see if it’ll work ;)

David,

Maybe you know this already, but the "5 minute" JB Weld is not as strong as the version that takes longer to cure. Not sure which one you used, but possibly something to keep in mind for future repairs.

I have the 5 min one... I think one of the seams is already separating. I may try to use a different epoxy, but I am sure getting a new reproducer is the best way to go
