Here is an “early” Columbia AS Coin-op Graphophone, as noted by the S tag, in as found condition.
The machine is in grubby condition and will need a thorough going over. Original untouched finish with a good decal and still sporting its original signboard! Motor winds up and runs, and the upper works turn freely but are very gummy from the dried oil. I put a few drops of oil on the carriage rod, and the carriage will slide freely when the spring-loaded lead screw is held up.
I am not a Columbia collector, and am not familiar with Coin-op machines, but from what I have seen on the internet, the machine appears to be all there. Please look at all the pictures, as I am selling this machine in as found condition. The machine is dry, and several of the cabinet joints have separated, and will need to be re-glued. Also, the bedplate frame will need to have some vernier repair. All original glass is intact, with no cracks or chips. There are no keys. Includes its original 13” Coin-op nickel horn, but the upper half of the elbow is missing.
All in all, a very worthy machine that needs the right person to bring it back to life!
The price is SOLD ($2500, plus $100 for secure double boxed shipping). (the motor and case will be broken down and boxed separately). I accept PayPal “friends & family”.
The first one to post “SOLD” gets it.
Please P.M. or Email with any questions.
Thanks, Bob S.

It would be interesting to know where this was found and how it survived...

It would be interesting to know where this was found and how it survived...The person I got it from, (a man in his 70's), was the son of a man who found it in the basement of an old grocery store in Philadelphia that was being torn down many years ago.
Cheers, Bob S.

This may be a dumb question... but why is there no spring barrel? Why is the spring exposed?

The Type A Graphophone, on which the coin-op AS was based, had no spring barrel. This is as-designed, much like the Edison Gem. For sure, the new owner will want to replace that spring out of caution. It's no fun when an open spring like that breaks.
