It is a very nice Columbia AK. This model has the rod support, which is not often found. This model was sold directly through Columbia, and also through Sears.
Let me start by saying this AK is really nice, but not perfect. It is a slightly later version, with the brass elbow and analyzing reproducer. It is a seldom seen variation with all the correct parts.
Lets expand on that. This AK has:
- An original turntable that is in great condition - These turntables were made out of pot metal and most often have fallen apart. This one is not only completely intact, and solid, it also runs true. An outstanding example.
- The horn has the correct zinc bell - Columbia machines used this 14" horn with a zinc bell. Client models had the same horn with a steel bell.
- The reproducer is an early thumb-screw Columbia version - Later versions of this reproducer used the lever to replace the thumb screw.
- The wooden tone-arm is the correct one - Rod support machines had a shortened tone arm pin shaft on them that went into the rod. Cast support arm machines had a longer pin shaft.
The AK plays well for a seven inch machine. It is a great machine, seldom found at a really good price. Columbia machines are so undervalued for their quality of build and detail. This one is a great one for your collection.
