Model 'A' Gem marketed by The Edison Bell Consolidated Phonograph Co., Ltd. of London as the Type '1' Gem. The Type '!' is identified by a metal plate fixed over the original GEM logo which is visible under the plate because one of the pins fixing the plate in position interfered with the governor weights. The pin is missing and the plate bent outward. Someone didn't think things through when designing this plate! This phono runs well and Model 'B' reproducer sounds good. Case has the green dye characteristic of the early models. The lid has separated from the end boards at the top. I suspect it was stored hanging by the handle.
