This is a fairly nice 8-30 I have had for a few months now. There are quite a few high points; the finish is still quite shiny, 3 of the 12" albums are still in the original wrapping paper and the other 5 albums are nearly full of 78s, all of which came with the machine. This is in the less-common (I am hesitant to say rare) gunmetal finish. I believe this is a late 1926 machine, as many of the original records are from 1926 and it does have the offset turntable and record holder on the left. The other records are some batwings from the teens, and some 40s records. All are in excellent shape, E- at the least. The pot metal reproducer has been rebuilt professionally- the bearings replaced and greased, and the rear isolator replaced as well, and really does sound great. There's a few small cracks in the rear plate of the reproducer but it's solid and won't be coming apart any time soon. I have not touched the motor or the air pots. The motor runs smoothly, but it does occasionally "thump" rather loudly. This doesn't affect play, but can shake the floor a little. The air pots do keep the lid up, they just don't let it sink back down. While the finish is nice there are a few scratches and scrapes. I haven't cleaned it, but goop/gojo should help with these spots and if that doesn't completely fix it, a touch of restor-a-finish will most certainly. The plating is quite nice on the tonearm (the only gold plated piece) and the paint/finish on the gunmetal parts is also in great shape. The grille cloth is all original and all there, and the grille itself has no damage at all. The tonearm bracket WAS damaged but the man I bought it from did some sort of repair to hold it together. I don't quite know how he did it, but it holds up the tonearm and isn't terribly visually jarring. I'd be happy to help get this out to someone's car or truck but if you come to buy it you're going to have to help move it. I do apologize for the wall of text but I really want to go over everything I could for a buyer. Please DM or ask a question in this thread if you need to know anything else. I will be posting photos and a video or two in a few hours.
Thanks,
Gunnar

Re: FOR SALE: 1926 Gunmetal VV 8-30- $350
I am located in Minneapolis, Minnesota for anyone wondering. I am only the third owner of this machine (you could be the fourth!). I was told that the original owner loved it quite a lot and held dance parties with it. I expect this was true- there's a handful of hot jazz records in the albums.

Photos? Not that I'd buy it (I mean, how to move it from Minnesota to Pennsylvania?), but pictures would probably help to market it to those who might consider buying.

Here are the photos including the most notable scratches and a video of the motor running and one of those thumps I mentioned. The reproducer only has one actual crack and the faint outline of another but overall it's good. The Serial number is 52896 so it is indeed a later 1926 machine. Will be posting a video of it playing soon.

Here is a video, using both a record and one of the needles that came with. Don't worry, the package was unopened

Thanks! I hope this price isn't too high- in my opinion it's a really nice example of a Credenza that only really NEEDS the brake leather replaced.

Very pretty machine. If I didn't already have one I would be searching for a way to get it here.

Plop that down in the San Francisco Bay area, and you could probably add another $1,000.00 to the asking price, if not more--even today. I paid more for my beaten up 4-40, which is still missing its stretcher. That was 22 years ago, at a time when Orthophonic Victrolas were scarce where I live. (They still are. )

I wouldn't be opposed to shipping it via freight, but obviously the buyer would be paying and it's probably simpler to just find one locally. I would be happy to help pack it up for transport though (think disassembly, packing the fragile bits with bubble wrap or other wrapping, etc).
