…………………….

October marks the 91st anniversary of Thomas Alva Edison’s passing.
“We mourn him because he left a legacy of glory to every human being in the world.”

Soon after October 18, 1931, Damase Beauchamp took up the tools of his trade to make this unique work of art. Beauchamp was a calligrapher, and the creative outpouring in this tribute for the world’s greatest inventor is inspirational.

On its vellum pages are hand-inked bold passages for “The Grand Edison”. It begins with text borrowed from Robert G. Ingersoll (adapted for Edison), continuing with President Hoover’s honoring sentiments. The framed areas holding the text are embossed and tinted, with ruled gold borders. These pages are placed in a leather binding with a slipcase. Incredibly detailed, the height of the text is only ⅛” tall! His signature is just 1/16” tall.

Beauchamp (1881-19??) immigrated from Canada and settled in Los Angeles. My internet searches also found that a similar one-of-kind book for Hollywood composer Dimitri Tiomkin was penned in 1938.

The Edison book comes with a note stating it was purchased directly from Beauchamp. This note paper is watermarked by a business that ceased in the 1960s.

………………………………………..

Its condition is Very Good or better.

Very Good (VG): Describes a book that shows some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper. Any defects should be noted by the seller.

The only thing to add, that is not seen in the photos, is the small pencil notation on the flyleaf noting Beauchamp’s selling price.
