Wanted: Records About Lighthouses

Post by Dave D »

I donated a Victrola to the Fort Gratiot Light Station, the oldest lighthouse in Michigan. Does anyone know of any tunes about lighthouses that might be fun to have for the lighthouse keeper's quarters there?

It's not really about lighthouses, but there is a nice Columbia record by Morton Downey called "The old lamplighter".

Only one title comes to mind for me, which is "When the Bell in the Lighthouse Rings Ding Dong." Frank C. Stanley recorded it for Victor, and it was released in 10 and 12 inch sizes. This song seems to have been an old standard, so I'd imagine it was available on a number of small labels as well. Unfortunately I don't own a copy myself, but it's something to look for.

Not useful for this project, but Stanley also recorded it on an Indestructible cylinder. The composer of the song, Alfred Solman, also wrote "The Bird on Nellie's Hat."

You might have better success by posting your Wanted in the Music Trader rather then Yankee Trader..

Dave,
This isn't the content you're looking for, but eBay #393943301709 would be a nice 78 to display on a Victrola in the lighthouse keeper's quarters.
