It's all too common. I see stuff advertised all the time that folks on Craig's List think is going to provide their retirement funds when what it's worth might possible cover one trip to the grocery store with a short shopping list. I just move along to the next ad.

Arthur W. J. G. Ord-Hume's Laws of Collecting
1. Space will expand to accommodate an infinite number of possessions, regardless of their size.
2. Shortage of finance, however dire, will never prevent the acquisition of a desired object, however improbable its cost.

The problem is two things. People think old=value which is often not true or they set their value based on sentimental attachment forgeting the buyer doesn't share the sentiment. You are right, I just move one to the next ad too. Plenty of people on craigslist just want them out of the way.

I'm always a little worried about the ones that say "raising money for my Dad's funeral"
If I ever hear that one around my home, I'm leaving town pronto!

Classic! This person took pictures of a Standard Model A made by the Standard Talking Machine Co. and copy/pasted different listings, (probably from eBay) of Edison Standard cylinder machines.

It's "eclectic" all right -- two phonographs in one, apparently! "Uncirculated"? "Prototype . . . . needle head"? "Fruit dye"? Per Sonny's post above:

Not much of a description, but for $300 you can store your water and toilet paper.......
