Edison Opera Won't Lift Reproducer Off Record: A Theory

A friend of mine has a mahogany Opera with both L and Diamond A reproducers. It came with the L and he bought the Diamond A later. The same spring is able to lift both on his machine. I do recall that he had some initial problems, but a very slight bend to the hook on one of the reproducers solved his lifting problems.
