New Acquisition - Black L door XVI
Here is a machine that many of you will find interesting - at least I did. It is a Flemish Oak - Call that BLACK "L" Door XVI. Everything is original to it. It is missing the Oak drawer which I have but will need to match the finish, and I need one Feltoid castor as one of mine is missing chunks of the felt and will not roll at all. Please contact me if you can help out with the castor. It is a D model and serial is 56,xxx. The XVI is totally unexpected in this finish. I thought I would share it with you. John

I love it! The finish is so unusual. It makes you wonder about the decor that originally surrounded that machine. How did it blend or contrast with the rest of the furniture? Machines like this make collecting so interesting. Not everyone bought golden oak.
Years ago I had a visit by another collector. I thought he was knowledgeable until he commented on my fumed oak Amberola. My machine is a lovely fumed oak example and he said it would look so nice if it were refinished. I felt like showing him out but kept my thoughts to myself. Jerry Blais

I am with Jerry, What was the rest of the room like?
Pete, there is your Interior shot with the boxes you graciously sold me. This machine came to me with only two boxes and one of them was "I" which was the only one missing from the set I bought from you. - Serendipitous! John

Nice! And so unusual. Back in the early 80s I bought a Flemish Oak XI which was a basket case. Most of the exterior veneer was missing, but the appearance of the interior (especially the lid) was so unusual that I considered re-veneering the exterior and matching it to the interior. Unfortunately, a flood finished off the poor hulk.
That's wonderful to find that finish in an L-door - - congratulations!

nice... I always thought that the really dark finishes like that were fumed, and that flemish was more of a deep brown rather than black... what's the difference then between fumed and flemish?

WOW!!!....what a beauty. For a moment, I thought it may have been the "Driftwood" finish.

I've seen one driftwood oak machine in my time collecting, a straight door XVI, and it looked just like driftwood... a light, white and gray colored stain.
