The Talking Machine Forum — For All Antique Phonographs & Recordings

This past week my wife and I took a road trip to visit my daughter in Las Vegas.
On one day we paid pilgrimage to the temples along the strip, stopping at Luxor for photo opportunities
and Bellagio to see what paintings were on view. Not exactly your typical gamers here.
There could only be one way to get me to sit and play a while...

My daughter then drove us to another mecca, Main Street America and within is
The Las Vegas Phonograph Company. Now were cooking with gas!
The proprietor, Doug Franck, and I chatted at length. We were both happy to find
a kindred spirit to share our interest. He allowed me snap a few photos to share.
I soon found my patient and hungry family sitting and waiting 30 minutes or more,
in what seemed like just a few minutes to me. They are so good to me!
Make this one of your stops when you're in Las Vegas and give yourself more time
than I had, Doug is a pleasure.



That's my Las Vegas story and I'm sticking to it!

Oh, the Los Vegas Phonograph Company looks like a place I might never leave. Beauties everywhere!

Assuming they are for sale? If so, how are the prices?

This is Las Vegas, a mega tourist trap - need you ask? I'll bet they rival the prices that I saw in a shop in Monterrey, California years ago - astronomical.

Clay, we stopped there late afternoon after the strip and we were all tried and thinking of dinner. I had no idea that this shop was 'the' shop she told me of. I focused on the ample supply of 78s and chatting with the owner. Most of the 78s I managed to thumb were clean pre-20s, fairly priced between $1 and $3. Other than snapping a few pictures, I glossed over the machines. Sorry, no price information. The time flew and will have to wait for our next visit. I'll need to sneak away, alone. The owner has the phono-bug and does much of his own bench work too.

In the desert, I don't often get to see so many toys in one place. This was a great 30 minutes.

Nice article. It's from 4/2013 and noticed that the location is old. If your planning to stop in, it's 1400 S. Main St.
