Wanted: Information on this Scarce Phonograph Crane

Post by Talkophone »

Just picked it up today. My friend said it was for an Edison Standard cylinder phonograph. Does anyone know the company who made it? Any help would be appreciated.

I have seen these before, but not with the knob to hold the crane. Most of the latch type cranes I am familiar with have a straight coupling and extension which runs up from the mounting piece and then makes a bend 12+" up the crane to angle out and hold the horn. Don't know what company made them, but it is a good idea...

I've written a series of articles in The Antique Phonograph on horn cranes from various companies, and I've kept my eyes open for an ad showing this crane. So far I've found nothing. There's nothing written on my example or others I've seen, and I can find no U.S. Patent on the design. These cranes turn up from time to time, and are not rare, yet there seems to be nothing known about them! :?

George, is there a picture of one of these in your books? If not, could you post a picture of yours, so we can see how it looks on a machine?

Thanks,
Jim

No, we don't show one of these in any of our books. Here's what this crane looks like installed on a machine:
