Introducing The TMF Label Gallery & Guide

I've been watching all of this develop with intense excitement! I'm guessing I need to buy a scanner soon and start contributing to this cause, since the scanner I have isn't working. I've got a ton a labels that are very unique indeed which would be great to add in with what's here already so far and many others which others may not have either. As has been the case with seemingly everything in my boat lately, it's going to take me some time to get moving on it. I'll do my best, though!

In all seriousness, though, I foresee that I will be working on this project for quite some time to come, and honestly, I do not think that anyone needs to rush to get unique labels from their collection scanned. I’ve been mostly working on this here and there (particularly during my commute to and from work, if I feel motivated), and it’s not as if we have a deadline for completion...

And for a status update: over the last several days, I’ve taken a bit of a break from adding to the Gallery & Guide, but here are more new additions: The Duophone (graciously provided by Norman), Marconi, Master, Masterpiece, Medallion, Melotone, Metropole, MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer), Montgomery-Ward, Mouldie-Fygge, Mozart, National Music Lovers Inc. and Odeon.

Expect more as I work on them tonight.

I’d hoped to talk to John about a few labels, but since I came home too late to catch him while he was still awake, here are the latest batch of uploaded labels: Q•R•S, Radax, Radiofunken Phonograph Records, Regal, Regal Zonophone, Regent, Remington-Morse, Rhythm Records, Rich-Tone, Romeo, Royal Roost, Roycroft, Sirena-Grand-Record, Sonora, SRC (Sound Recording Company), Sterling, Sterno, Super Disc, Supreme, Swaggie, Symphonola, Syrena-Grand-Record, Tempo and The Twin. (The label index is filling out nicely.)

...only 99 more images (from John) to go.

I’m not sure I want to know how many labels I’m going to end up seeing from everyone else, although I’m really looking forward to continuing to watch this grow.

And it’s nice to be actually creating something for the good of the community, rather than just talking about how it could be done.

That’s interesting to know—I knew John was a label whore, but with a lot of these labels, I have no clue how common or rare they are. Is Google correct in informing me that a ‘swaggie’ is an an itinerant Australian laborer who carries his personal belongings in a bundle as he travels around in search of work?

Yeah, that's a pretty good discription of a swaggie or swagman. I doubt there'd be many around now days, but back in the day, they'd travel around working on farms or sheering sheep etc.
I've never been able to find a Swaggie disc, and I was a little surprised to see Graeme Bell recorded for them. They were a pretty main stream jazz band out here in the 40's/50's, and recorded for Parlophone & Regal-Zonophone.

I have 57 more images from John’s collection to process, now—all of which are Victor products. So feel free to start preparing images to expand the non-Victor labels, and I’ll try to have the last of John’s images up within the next 24 hours or so.

I think we will be showcasing quite a few more of your collection than that.

I have been meaning to scour your Wikipedia images to add to it (and will get to that once I finish a few more that I need to do). Feel free to send more of them to me via private message or e-mail.
