Post by Turruz »

Hello everybody,..

yesterday i bought this machine for 75 euro.. I HOPE 81 DOLLARS IS A GOOD PRICE FOR IT... but i cant understand the different label... someone can help me?? thank you for every information !!!

Congratulations, it is a very desirable machine and seems in good order. 75 euro is a gift! In which country did you find it?

My graphophones are all "Disc Graphophone", but I do find some examples with the Columbia in the logo

I cannot however find any info about the difference.

I just sold a restored 1903 Columbia model “AK” Graphophone on Ebay.
It had a Greg Cline "The Disc Graphophone" decal on it.
Can't say that I have ever seen one with a decal like yours,
but it may have been available like that outside the U.S.

Is the Columbia Phonograph Company on the last scroll on your AK in white or black letters?

The banner labels that say either The Columbia Disk Graphophone and the Columbia Graphophone came out in 1907. For cylinder Graphophones, these decal were used until the end of cylinder era. I believe Columbia stopped making cylinder machines around 1910-12. For the disk machines, this late banner decal was used until 1908 when the profile decal was used. The profile decal looks like a horned disk graphophone. I'm guessing your AK is a late one from about 1907-8.
