I have a very late Edison Stsndard Suitcase serial number S42969 with an Automatic reproducer #207352 that has a Hinge pin and limit loop. My question is this, does anyone know the serial number and date of the last Standard Suitcase produced?
Thanks
Rich Gordon

Re: Question about an Edison Standard Suitcase
As in most things Edison, there was a short period (perhaps only a few days) where both old and new types were being assembled with serial numbers intermixed. The transition between suitcase Standards and New Style Cabinets occurred right around No.43,000. Yours is one of the last suitcase Standards. According to Martin Kauper's research, No.42697 was in a New Style Cabinet, while No.43074 retained the 4-clip. This transition evidently occurred during November 1901.rgordon939 wrote:I have a very late Edison Stsndard Suitcase serial number S42969 with an Automatic reproducer #207352 that has a Hinge pin and limit loop. By the way, your number appears to be No.42869.

Really, really nice.... I have a soft spot for suitcase Standards for whatever reason. They are great machines.

Re: Question about an Edison Standard Suitcase
Question: Is your reproducer neck strait or bent?
Your reproducer also has the thicker weight which was also a late feature. I have Automatic 200442 (left side of pic). You can see the differences from the most common Automatic on the right. It has the thick weight but has the earlier limiter screw and not the pin / loop.
