Columbia Fiber Gear Help

I have a Columbia 1 spring motor and the fiber gov. gear is stripped. Can someone help a new collector on how to start this job?
I am even at a loss on how to remove the turntable spindle. I thought undoing the screw and it would simply slide out, but no, maybe it needs some help?
Will the fiber gear then just press on?
Any incite would be very helpful

I have repaired many of these motors(except for springs) On the brass spindel gear, there is a set screw. Remove the set screw completely, taking care not to lose it. The spindle should slide out. If it is stubborn, use Kroil, PB Blaster, or Liquid Wrench. Let it sit until the oils creeps in to loosen the spindle gear. Don't force it. You will have to replace the fiber gear. Ron Sitko sells these for about $25.00 each. Once you get the fiber gear, use a black marker and put a dot on top of the old gear. That will guide you for the orientation of the gear teeth. They have to be exactly pointing in the direction of the old gear. Carefully pry off the old gear using a thin screwdriver. Clean the spindle gear of any dirt or residue. Line the new gear next to the old gear making sure the direction of the teeth match. Put a dot on the new gear so you remember the teeth orientation. Mix a small batch of 5 min. epoxy on the spindle and place gear firmly on it. Even though it is 5 min. epoxy, I would let it cure overnight. Then reassemble he motor.

Agreed. If you have removed the set screw, penetrating oil should free the gear from the spindle.

Note: replacing the gear on the spindle (once the fiber gear has been replaced) may require a bit of finesse to get it properly adjusted with the governor screw. It might help if, before you remove the gear, you scratch a mark or two on the spindle, above and below it, to show where it should be placed.

I can tell you that all I did was lossen the set screw, I never romoved it and I probbibly didn't even back it out enough. I will try again today and will make sure I mark it with the teeth direction. How do I contact the person mentioned to buy a replacement?

Bringing back a old post to clarify some things. My Columbia had a fiber gear "had" it was found in many little pieces when I opened up the machine. So I have no reference point. Since they are no longer $25 but $45 I want to make sure I do it right. Is there any way of installing this gear without having to old one to reference on? Thanks
