VV-XVII Japanese Finish

This just popped up on craigslist. It also has lots of little goodies and looks complete. I don't think it would fit with my decorating style......or wallet, but truly interesting all the same.

I'm not sure if it's me or not but in picture 5, it looks like 2 different volume doors. The patterns don't match. Not sure if they were done like that or if 1 door was replaced, or could it be a repro? Finding a replacement door for this model would be next to impossible. Does anyone else know about that?

I looked again and saw the difference in what looks like a fence. One side is a different design. I certainly looks like the doors and entire machine has come through the years together but there is a difference between the two in terms of the artwork. It's hard enough and nearly impossible to take a door from one machine with an oak or mahogany finish and install it on a machine with similar finish. The environmental effect on finishes is so different from one area to another. I can't imagine finding a replacement door from one machine with a special finish and having it look age correct on another machine. My slightly educated guess is a difference in artwork. Jerry

why do people shove records into the horn like that? ugh. I get it, some people don't know, but if they're broadcasting an appraised amount of something they're asking quite a bit of money for, you'd think greater care would be taken with the presentation.

Yes I was referring to the artwork. I know the chances of finding a door to a special period piece like this is slim to never ever, but the artwork looks very different on the volume doors. The fence and the plants look like they came from different machines which is why I asked the question. Other than the artwork they look like a match. I'm not saying they are wrong, it just looks suspicious and I don't know enough about Chinese art Victrolas to make an informed decision. Does anyone have one that could chime in on their machine's artwork?

The painting doesn't look like a problem to me. It is a very nicely done machine and I only wish I were on the east coast so I could run over and pick it up. I have always wanted a Victor asian painted machine.

I'd like to know what the value of this machine ends up being if/when it sells...not that I could probably afford it, I'm just curious.
