My first thought was to fix it all up from stem to stern and offer it here for delivery at the Wayne show. Then it occurred to me that for someone starting out, this would be a great machine to work on, so that's how I'm offering it. Not even dusted off.
PLUSES:
*Motor runs quietly and the machine plays fine even without having any lubrication, nor sound box rebuild. Even an electric record played well on it.
*Comes with its original Victrola No.2 sound box. (All parts on this are original/unmolested).
*Nothing is missing - even the needle cup & cover are still there.
*Very late production (check that serial number against Baumbach's Victor Data Book, page 114).
*Turntable appear to be the same as supplied with the VV-50. Interesting.
MINUSES:
*Cabinet has some minor scratches over most surfaces.
*Nickel plating needs polishing.
*Lid is missing 3 screws for the hinge. I will supply these. The holes will probably need the "toothpick & glue" treatment.
In short, this is a nice, solid little oak table top Victrola that needs a little cosmetic TLC to make it beautiful again. Speaking of beautiful, check out the grain of the oak - especially under the lid. This is probably one of the very last of the Victrola VIIIs manufactured. This model was discontinued April 29, 1924.
Delivery at the Wayne show on Saturday April 9, or Sunday April 10. I can also meet the buyer anywhere along my route to or from the show (I'm in western NY State).
First to say "SOLD" is the new owner.
(If this doesn't sell, and someone would be interested in it all fixed up and ready for the living room, I can perform the necessary work at additional cost.)
Thanks for looking. This really is a nice little machine.
