Confused Silvertone on Craigslist

Post by Benjamin_L »

Saw this and thought it was pretty funny.

Why don't we just throw a few more brand names in it while we're at it.

I hope they threw in the extra names just to catch everyones search terms! I'd hate to think they thought that was the actual name.

That is a rather attractive machine. Very clean!

The seller isn't very knowledgeable about phonographs. They saw the little plate that holds the Edison and Pathé stylus and that's why all those names were mentioned. Also, the machine has that "Victrola look". I agree, it is a nice machine. One note to add, whenever you see a Silvertone machine with the round, embossed ID plate, that is an early machine. Then came the rectangular brass plate, and finally the decal.

It's not mine. However I saw the same machine at Goodwill in Watauga auction case with a bid of $35 on it the week prior to seeing this on Craigslist. Have no idea what it actually sold for at GW. It seemed very much okay with what appears to be a reasonable refinish job on it. Can't imagine why someone would have dropped off such a thing at GW to begin with. And I didn't bid because I try to stick to Victor and Edison products.

What's up with the Edison Pathé escutcheon, and where is it on the machine?

The escutcheon is a decorative plate to hold small accessories for the Silvertone. It hold the Pathé stylus , and is labeled Pathé. There is a hole that is labeled Edison for the Edison stylus. The larger hole in the escutcheon hold to adapter to set the reproducer to play hill and dale records. When the machines were purchased new, Both the Edison , Pathé styli, and the adapter was included. Hope this helps.
