Recent USPS damage claim - a GOOD experience!

Didn't see a good place for this post. Moderator should feel free to relocate it.

We've had some discussions about which carriers to use/not use, which carriers are good/bad about paying insurance claims, etc. I recently received a 1950s 45 player in the mail, with a crack completely through the plastic. (This was at least partially the seller's fault as they ignored my packing directions, but I digress...) The package was sent via Priority Mail, which now automatically includes $50 in insurance. I paid $25 for the player, so I was sure I would be covered.

I went to usps.com to see if I could file a claim online, and I could. I entered the package tracking number, and then saw a partially filled out form to complete. In addition to the usual things like name, address, description of contents, etc., I had to supply proof of value and proof of damage. A screen shot of the ebay listing took care of proof of value, and 1 photo took care of proof of damage.

I received the damaged player on 7/18 and filed the claim that day. It was approved almost immediately; USPS sent me a check on 7/20. This is my first USPS claim in many years. I was pleased that I was able to go through a fairly painless process and get this resolved so quickly. Should you be in a similar position, I hope your experience will be the same.

Must have been one of the bakelite 45 players. I have received them in broken condition before. Sellers must treat these as shipping glass. Also, I was very fortunate when I received my RCA RP-193 45 PLAYER, which is a rare one, it arrived in great shape.
