This check is hand signed by Thomas Alva Edison. It was issued in 1924 by Thomas A Edison, Inc. This is one way to obtain a real Edison signature on a budget. Obviously, the piece removed from his signature to signify the check was cancelled did a number on the autograph. The reverse also bears an Edison signature but it could be that of his son, Charles.

Yes, although it was more common to cut an "x" through the signature or sometimes punch holes in it. This one did more damage than most hence the cheap price!
