Model C winged reproducer dating... wierd s/n

I have a winged C reproducer coming. From what I can discern it has a weird S/N.. The s/n is E 50o... The last number is possible a nine but looks like a small o. I do not have any pics yet as I purchased it on E bay from the UK.. I am sure about the E and the 50 but the last letter is weird. Thanks Tom B

If it's the one I was watching I read the marking as F&Co and assumed it was a reproduction

I agree with Steve.. It looks to be a Well made Reproduction...most likely from the U.K.

All Edison Originals had their Serial numbers below the reproducer neck, never above. This Reproducer is a Reproduction, Not an Original Edison Reproducer. There are some excellent Reproduction Reproducers out there...most from U.K. private Makers/Collectors and usually have their serial number marked/altered a bit differently so as not to confuse serious collectors.

No big harm done.. Put it in a machine and enjoy it. That's what I would do.

The stamping actually says "E B Co". Logically that should stand for Edison Bell, but I have not come across one of these before. Model "C" on an Edison Bell machine will normally have "New Model" stamped on the tailweight.
I will do some digging.

So are we to believe that the Reproducer the original OP bought on Ebay is a period correct Edison/Bell Reproducer??!?? Interesting! Nothing is what it seems!...lol...

I have to laugh...as I just checked some of my own Edison Model C Reproducers...and some of my own originals have the Serial numbers stamped above the neck and not below it.. I don't know why I was so stuck on it being stamped on the bottom...I guess because that's where the majority of them are stamped. I'll check out Steve's article. It sounds like its nicely written.

It was the one you saw on E bay. I thought it a good buy. I was having a hard time on reading it. I brought the reproducer for a two clip I am restoring and tried to get a lower s/n. With the work to be done on it I would have been better off paying the premium and buying one from the forum or a supplier. Thanks for the information. I will see how it plays.
I read the very comprehensive on the C reproducers. It took a lot of research on his part. I am waiting for his next article on H reproducers.

the number on the reproducer is EB 09. I take it that it is an Edison bell reproduction. The center is mica that has a connecting wire to the stylus which is soldered on. I think this is one that will have to go to Steve for rebuilding. I was going to send it to Wyatt's . I wonder if this one is worth spending the money on to rebuild although it would be nice to have one with the mica diaphragm Tom B

I've owned a similar E.B. Co reproducer for close to 30 years now, yet mine is clearly closer to an early Model B. It was found in Canada on an Edison Standard Model A from 1902.

The early model B reproducer shown would be appropriate for a 1902 UK/Commonwealth Edison machine. The "New Model" reproducer would have been after Edison and Edison-Bell parted ways in 1903. I wonder if these "EB Co." reproducers were made in New Jersey for export or were made in the UK either under license (or were under-the-table knock-offs)? I've got an early Squaretop Standard from the UK with a completely unmarked Automatic reproducer that looks very old. I'd be very curious to know if there are other Edison-Bell (export Edison) machines out there with similar reproducers. Very interesting thread!
